TRINITY

The doctrine of the Trinity means that God is three persons and yet one in essence. The word Trinity does not occur in Scripture, but it well describes the three-in-one nature of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

BIBLE REFERENCES THAT SPEAK OF THE

FATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT

After his baptism, as soon as Jesus came up out of the water,

the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God coming down in the form of a dove.

Matthew 3:16

Therefore go and make disciples in all the nations baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:19

But I will send you the Comforter--the Holy Spirit, the source of all truth. He will come to you from the Father and will tell you all about me.

John 15:26

Now God gives us many kinds of special abilities but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service to God, but it is the same Lord we are serving. There are many ways in which God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work in and though all of us who are his. The Holy Spirit displays God's power through each of us as a means of helping the entire church. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; someone else may be specially good at studying and teaching, and this is his gift from the Spirit. He gives faith to another, and to someone else the power to heal the sick. He gives power for doing miracles to some and to others power to prophesy and preach. He gives someone else the power to know whether evil spirits are speaking through those who claim to be giving God's messages--or whether it is really the Spirit of God who is speaking. Still another person is able to speak in languages he never learned; and others, who do not know the language either, are given power to understand what he is saying. It is the same and only Holy Spirit who gives all these gifts and powers deciding which one of us should have. Our bodies have many parts, but the many parts make up only one body when they are put together. So it is with the "body" of Christ. Each of us is a part of the one body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves and some are free. But the Holy Spirit has fitted us all together into one body. We have been baptized into Christ's body by the one Spirit, and have all been given that same Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:4-13

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. May God's love and the Holy Spirit's friendship by yours.

2 Corinthians 13:14

Now all of us, whether Jews or Gentiles, may come to God the Father with the Holy Spirit's help because of what Christ has done for us.

Ephesians 2:18

We always thank God for you and pray for you constantly. We never forget your loving deeds as we talk to our God and Father about you, and your strong faith and steady looking forward to the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. We know that God has chosen you, dear brothers, much beloved of God. For when we brought you the Good News, it was not just meaningless chatter to you; no, you listened with great interest. What we told you produced a powerful effect upon you, for the Holy Spirit gave you great and full assurance that what we said was true. And you know how our very lives were further proof to you of the truth of our message.

1 Thessalonians 1:2-5

Dear friends, God the Father chose you long ago and knew you would become his children. And the Holy Spirit has been at work in your hearts, cleansing you with the blood of Jesus Christ and making you to please him. May God bless you richly and grant you increasing freedom from all anxiety and fear.

1 Peter 1:2
