I carry a chip in my pocket,

128 wordsrevised 2015-08-01

a simple reminder to me,

of the fact that I'm always in danger,

no matter where I may be.

This little chip is not magic,

nor is it a good luck charm;

and it isn't meant to protect

me from any physical harm.

It's not for identification

for all the world to see.

It's simply a timely reminder

how vigilant I must be.

When I put my hand in my pocket

to bring out a coin or a key,

the chip is there to remind me,

how vulnerable I might be.

It reminds me, too,

to be thankful for

the peace & comfort I share

with all of my fellow members,

exchanging our love and care.

So I carry a chip in my pocket,

a constant reminder to me,

of the dangers but also the safety

in my new life of sobriety.
