Guy Salomone
Religious and Spiritual Origins of the 12 step recovery movement Lotus press 1997
.
I don't agree but this is an incredibly thought provoking article. Mr. Salomone wrote me to ask that I remove the pdf file below (which was sent to me by an anonymous person from alt.recovery-from the 12 steps.) and I complied. I have since found that some of his writing has been published (see above) as a Pamphlet. by Lotus Press. I am trying to find a copy. To learn more about Mr. Salomone just go to google and type in his complete name and you will find he is holding spiritual retreats in California and seeking employment in commune type organizations as a cook.

Rev. Salomone, M.A., M.Div., is an independent minister and ordained
priest in the Old Catholic tradition. He holds degrees from Holy Names
College and Andover Newton Seminary.
Alcoholics Anonymous- Of Course It's a Cult!
Gaetano Salomone's extensive, ongoing analysis in JRR [The Journal of Rational Recovery] shows the purely religious identity and origins of AA. One of his unique contributions is his comparison of the surface structure and the deep structure (what you see and what you get) of the 12-step religious conversion program.
