A MINORITY REPORT:

TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE GENERAL SERVICE BOARD

By Bill

Dear friends,

After surveying the recent digest of your comments on my Recommendations for strengthening the General Service Board, it seems evident that a considerable number of the Trustees still feel:

  1. That A.A. should not try to assume the primary leadership and management of its own General Service Board; that this top responsibility should, at least for the present, be left with our nonalcoholic friends.
  2. That the Board's Nominating Committee (whose recommendations will in the future cover a total of more than thirty of our G.S.B. Committeemen, corporate service directors, staff members and Trustees) needs no broadening of its present composition, nor improvement in its current methods of selecting new candidates.
  3. That the General Service Board should not try the experiment of inducting three Trustees at Large - dedicated A.A.'s (with'?) outstanding talents in the several important fields of administrative work in which our Board must constantly operate.
  4. That there is no need to bring the General Service Board into full alignment with all of A.A.'s Tradition and service customs, though the Board itself is the chief guardian of these principles.
  5. That it would be desirable, however, to induct more A.A. Trustees, provided that an equal number of nonalcoholics also be added to the Board; notwithstanding that this plan once in effect, might make a future "ratio change" difficult and perhaps impossible.

To me, these conclusions are disappointing and disturbing. I feel I cannot share responsibility for them, nor for any adverse results that may emerge from them in future years.

This is a minority report in respect of the January 1962 meeting of the Committee on Structures, and I ask that it be included in the minutes of the General Service Board.

Ever yours,
Bill Wilson
