WHAT'S BUGGING ME?
When we feel something out of whack (emotional pain), it is a signal that something is wrong. We should try to find out what it is (Step 10). We need to ask ourselves: am I being selfish, am I being self-seeking, am I being dishonest, am I being inconsiderate, am I being fearful?
We can say, "I've got a resentment." Now, we don't have to figure out who did something to us--that's going the wrong way. Instead, we try to see which part of self has been threatened. We don't pay attention to others or what they did or didn't do, we ask: "What part of me has been threatened?" We know something has been threatened, or we wouldn't have a feeling like this. Then we can ask which character defect has come to the surface. We can spot it right away. It's one of these: selfishness, dishonesty, lack of consideration, fear or self-seeking. Most likely, one of these has come back into our personality. Once we identify it, we can deal with it.
The key thing here is early detection of emotional discomfort and analyzing the cause so we can get right to the work of correcting it before it hardens and becomes entrenched in us, thus blocking us off the Sunlight of the Spirit.
Lets not make the common mistake so many others do: talking about it to the group. This just makes magnifies it and causes "group sickness" which is not positive.
